In 1915, 100 years ago, the pair produced their first aero engine, the Eagle which along with the Hawk, Falcon and Condor proved themselves in battle in the First World War. By the late 1950s, Rolls-Royce realised that it must win business in the USA if it was to remain in the front rank of aero engine suppliers. By 1971 Rolls-Royce had been forced into receivership and the company was effectively nationalised. The 1980s bought a new style of government to Britain, epitomised by the return of many nationalised industries and companies to private ownership. In this environment Rolls-Royce flourished and this second volume on the history if the company ends with Rolls-Royce floating on the Stock Exchange and returning triumphantly to the private sector.
