    About this product

    Product Information

Re-enter the world of Archanea as it was originally conceived with this fun, remastered installment in the award-winning Fire Emblem series, published by Nintendo and released in 2009 for the Nintendo DS system. Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon is a remake of the popular game, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light. Capitalizing on the dual-screen display and touchscreen controls of the portable gaming system, the map is viewed on the lower screen while troop statistics, important story events, and combat animations are visible on the top screen. As always, Fire Emblem brings a deep story. This time, the quest revolves around the adventures of a brave young prince in exile. As Prince Marth, you will lead a small team of heroes in turn-based battles of magic and metal across grid-lined battlefields. Set in the swords-and-sorcery fantasy land of Archanea, it follows the events of the base game but features some additions in the form of Gaiden missions. These Gaiden chapters feature exclusive trials and challenges which, if accomplished, result in unlocking previously unplayable units. The tradeoff for these new chapters is that the player has to have a relatively small army already in order to engage in them; some of these characters will be effective for one specific situation, so pick carefully. Also new to the Nintendo DS version of the Shadow Dragon series is the character artwork, redrawn by the original team to meet the standards of modern gaming. Numerous other features have been added, including the ability to change class at will, expanded difficulty options, and visual indicators to show how far characters can move or attack. Another vital addition to the remastered version is the weapon triangle now popularized by the later games, which reduces combat imbalances. For each new battle, you may confront different classes of characters that have different strengths and weaknesses in regard to speed, attacks, and defense. Classes vary from magic-slinging sorcerers and supportive healers to more front-line warriors such as Pegasus Knights and assassins. The grid-shaped combat map offers threats and demands considerations of its own. It contains unique and treacherous terrain like mountainous ridges and twining rivers to keep your army at bay. Each map also features castles and towns that the heroes can visit for unique bits of conversation or the occasional gift.As such, every battle requires fresh and engaging tactical considerations. Fire Emblem's warfare isn't only about deciding whether a swordsman or an axe-swinging pirate is better against an enemy spear. Instead, it's about making shrewd sacrifices of units and time in order to bring glory to the land. After playing through the main campaign in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, you can also enjoy hours of online multiplayer combat through a wireless connection to broadband internet. Online interactions include access to voice chat, a PvP mode made up of teams constructed by each side, and bartering performed by exchanging in-game currency. These features utilize the Nintendo DS's own Wi-Fi connection. Discover for yourself the hours of fun and strategy that this challenging game offers players of all ages.
