Seine Motivationstheorie, die das menschliche Handeln aus gestuften Bedürfnissen heraus erklärt, geht von einem ganzheitlichen positiven Menschenbild aus. Der letzten Stufe liegt eine geistige Zielsetzung zugrunde, die erst die eigentliche befriedigende Selbstverwirklichung ermöglicht. Die Folgerung der Humanistischen Psychologie: das zynische und verzweifelte Menschenbild, die menschliche Natur sei letztlich nur ihren materialistischen Trieben ausgeliefert, kann so nicht aufrechterhalten werden.
