Seller Notes: “This pair of antique Civil War era brass shoe toe tip leather children's straights work boots ... “This pair of antique Civil War era brass shoe toe tip leather children's straights work boots brogans date from 1859. They are hand made of a heavy stiffened leather, with hobnailed pegged wooden bottom soles. These early children's work boots brogans have squared toes fitted with brass metal toe tips to protect the toes which are stamped on the front toes with the patent date "November 29, 1859", a low stacked wooden heel, no tongues, a few remaining brass eyelets with the original leather shoe string laces and wooden pegged straight lasts soles with no left or right distinction. The boots measure 4 inches tall, 6 1/2 inches long and are 2 inches wide. They are in fair as-is condition, with wear, cracks, discoloration on the stiff leather and missing some of the leather trim edging (see close-ups). These are truly a rare and unique piece of antique children's shoe art.”
