The NetGear ProSAFE GS724TP is part of the innovative NetGear ProSAFE product family that bridges the gap between unmanaged and fully managed smart switches. Optimized for gigabit transmission rates, this unit includes 24 10/100/1000 ports to give plenty of connectivity options to link your devices. Transfer data at 10 times the speed of fast Ethernet. For even faster connections, this switch also comes with two small form-factor pluggable (SFP) ports that enable fiber optic and gigabit Ethernet connectivity. This device provides great flexibility with its built-in power over Ethernet (PoE) functionality. Defined by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.3af networking standard, each of the 24 RJ45 ports can deliver electricity to your Internet protocol (IP)-based devices using your network cables. Instead of spending money on additional electrical wires, this PoE-enabled unit frees your network from wall outlet dependence. Carrying a total power budget of 192 watts, this device allows you to connect up to 24 IEEE 802.3af-compliant devices, including wireless access points, voice-over IP (VoIP) phones, and IP-based surveillance cameras. In addition, you can protect your system from sudden outages or unplanned downtimes by enabling continuous service for all your networked devices via an uninterruptible power source. By increasing energy efficiency in your organization, this unit also helps you realize signifant savings. As your organization expands, congestion from high traffic bursts may degrade your system’s overall performance. To address this problem, the NetGear ProSAFE GS724TP provides enhanced quality of service (QoS) to prioritize traffic and manage bandwidth utilization. Some QoS features integrated into this unit include rate limiting, layer 3-based prioritization and 802.1p-based prioritization. Some improved security features implemented into the device include 802.1x for authentication, encryption and access control list filtering to allow or restrict traffic based on IP or media access control addresses.
