Notes
Three CDs. Disco 75 features huge hits along with dancefloor essentials that changed the face of dance music mid-decade; including massive radio-friendly tunes from Shirley (And Company), Jackson Five, KC And The Sunshine Band, Archie Bell And The Drells, The O'Jays, Whispers, The Average White Band, Harold Melvin And The Bluenotes, Disco Tex And The Sexolettes and more. With the UK dance venues split between R&B (in the classic sense), uptempo Motown which would eventually be known as Northern Soul and the Mod-orientated clubs where jazz was also played, a new generation of Disco DJs emerged including Chris Hill at The Goldmine at Canvey Island, Greg Edwards on London's Capital Radio, Robbie Vincent on Radio London and Mike Shaft in Manchester. By late '74, Billboard and Record World in the States had introduced charts focussing on club DJ returns and by October Billboard launched the Disco Action chart which featured top plays compiled from audience response in the New York clubs; while in the UK Blues & Soul magazine with their Disco Dozen chart featured 12 floor fillers described as "an independent survey of the most played and most requested current releases around Britain's Discotheques". Over three CDs and 55 tracks, Robinsongs has collected the most in demand records that sparked that initial interest in Disco around the world. Designed by Michael Robson and mastered by Simon Murphy this is the definitive collection of the dancefloor sounds of 1975. The best of 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1979 will follow.
