I just devoured this book. It's hard to put down once you start it. Derber and Magrass' Moving Beyond Fear exposes the playbook of authoritarian leaders, past and present. They demonstrate how, as the American Dream fades, political leaders use fear, fostering "security stories" to turn the lower classes against one another, while promising protection to the "true" members of society. This is a must-read for those eager to stem fascism and the looming catastrophes of climate change and nuclear proliferation.
