Because of the technology behind this quad-core processor, the Intel i7 960 is capable of clocking in at a baseline frequency of 3.2 GHz. Furthermore, with Intel's Turbo Boost technology, the Intel i7 processor can overclock to 3.5 GHz without compromising safety or stability. This technology couples with the hyperthreading capabilities of the i7 960 to enable the quad-core processor to intelligently distribute resource-hogging processes over its eight threads, maximizing efficiency and minimizing energy consumption. The i7 960 can utilize up to 24 GB of memory at a time (dependent on the type of memory in use), through three memory channels of DDR3-800/1066 memory. The Intel i7 processor also uses the VT-x and VT-x with Extended Page Tables (EPT) standards for virtualization. With the Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology at work as well, this Intel i7 processor is able to find the perfect balance between high performance and energy conservation, essential for high-complexity mobile operating platforms. This processor also includes the Intel Trusted Execution system, which offers hardware blocks for software attacks, ensuring the security and privacy of users at all times.
