'In the three of us one can find that undefinable connection that is all too rare in music these days,' states guitarist David Metzner. 'And it is one that is too special to deny.' After four years together, Them There has managed to create one of the strongest debuts by a band in recent memory. Their Session Ace Records release, The Gift of Reason, is special in that it demonstrates a sophistication and strength in songwriting while rocking throughout in the truest sense of the word. By combining the catchy melodic hooks of the Police, the rock and roll muscle of Stone Temple Pilots, the emotional yearnings of the Counting Crows and the sonic tapestry of Radiohead, Them There has blended some of the best elements in contemporary rock to form a sound that is all it's own. From the larger than life opener 'Parallel,' to the grooving pop anthem 'Everyone Needs A Friend,' to the awe inspiring inventiveness of the title track, 'The Gift of Reason' is an album that will soon be leaving a permanent impression on the Rock scene around the world. The band formed in 1996 when longtime friends and musical collaborators David Metzner and drummer Kevin Stevens met vocalist/bassist Hillel Familant through Third Eye Blind's drummer, Brad Hargraves. From their first meeting the three sensed an uncanny musical affinity that was both effortless and inspiring. With the release of their self-titled EP in 1996 the band started to play all over the California coast garnering positive reviews and a large following as well. Three years later, the perennial wish of their fans has become reality with the arrival of this masterful full length recording. It only takes witnessing one of their captivating live performances or listening to 'The Gift of Reason' to know that this band is not only here to stay, but ready to raise the standards of popular music for the new millennium.
