I could not get one to be recognized in windows or linux. There did appear to be corrosion and surface rust so I gave it a weak acid bath/soak/scrub (distilled vinegar) for the rust, rinsed it in distilled water, then steeped it 100% isopropyl alcohol to pull the water from all crevices. Put it out in the sun on a balmy 110 degree day just to make sure everything evaporated. Plugged it in and it was autodetected.
