Instructions are very basic and don’t explain that part. Loosen two to get enough spacing to take out two where bracket actually mounts . Very simple over all . I mounted this on my 2001 gs1150 . Added a Ram 1 inch ball mount with small adapter arm , that works perfectly with my quad lock mount . Had good height for viewing and does not block my site of road
