In una piccola repubblica sudamericana vive un italiano, Nostromo, che è considerato da tutti eccezionalmente coraggioso. Durante una rivolta c'è la necessità di mettere in salvo l'argento della miniera e Nostromo se ne prende l'incarico. Riesce a portare l'argento su di un'isola vicina ma, sedata la rivolta, nessuno mostra più riconoscenza per quest'impresa. Così Nostromo, offeso, fa credere che l'argento sia caduto nel mare. Per quanto riguarda i sentimenti, ama Gisella, ma è legato a Linda, sua sorella, che, terribilmente gelosa, spinge il padre ad uccidere Nostromo. Così anche il segreto dell'argento non potrà mai essere scoperto.
