About this product

Product Information

In the late 1800's, the United States Mint chief engraver, Charles Barber, was tasked with redesigning dime coins to replace the Seated Liberty design. Besides the dime, Barber made several other designs, including quarters and half-dollars. Barber dimes were produced from 1892-1916 and are among the most popular coins for collectors and history aficionados alike. Barber dimes are a must-have for anyone serious about coin collecting. The 1911-D Barber dime is not as rare as some with earlier mintage, although its value in the 21st century is still likely to be greater than its original 10 cents. This Barber dime weighs 2.5 grams and has a composition of 90% silver and 10% opper. As it neared the end of its series, the mintage began to increase, and in 1911 it gave the Denver mint its highest rate of dime production so far. Barber dimes are known for their sharp appearance. The low relief design of the coin helped to ensure that each dime would be sharply struck. Like many U.S. coins, the Barber dime features the likeness of Lady Liberty. The Barber dime depicts the Liberty head on the obverse and a wreath of leaves and wheat circling the words “One Dime” on the reverse. The mint mark appears as a small letter D, indicating its Denver mintage, on the reverse under the wreath. When it comes to selling and buying these unique coins at auction, the dollar value can range quite a bit based on the year of the mint and the condition of the coin. Very rare coins are often worth more than their original value in cents. The 1911 Barber dime, although not as rare as some, can still achieve a notable value over common bullion-related silver Roosevelt dimes. Coin grading is based on multiple characteristics of condition, such as preservation, luster, color, and attractiveness, and these will have an effect on the dollar value it can be sold for. General grades are mint, about uncirculated, fine, and good. The values and prices of coins range from highest to lowest following the order of the grade scale. The 1911 Barber dime is a unique and beautiful coin that will make an excellent addition to any collector’s showcase. It is an appropriate gift for the serious coin collector, whether their focus is gold coins, silver dollars, or paper money.
