- p***c (3022)- Feedback left by buyer.Past monthVerified purchaseA Japanese plane blade has a flat area on the ura side. The flat area and the bevel make up the two sides that form the cutting edge. As the blade is repeatedly sharpened the cutting edge keeps moving back and the flat on the ura side disappeares. Ura dashi or tapping the ura out to form a new flat is difficult. This piece of engineering genous makes it possible to hit the soft iron a consistant distance from the edge aside to side with consistant force.
