Embark on a quest to find the Triforce, slay Ganon and save Princess Zelda in the timeless adventure game from Shigeru Miyamoto that invented the genre. The game's release heralded the end of the days when console games were all about linear quests and never-ending twitch gameplay with small level variations or increasing speed settings. This is the first version of the game, released for the Famicom Disk System in Japan due to limits in cartridges at the time (and also Nintendo's push for its add-on technology). The disk feature allowed the game to be saved without the use of passwords, thus giving players the ability to freely explore and collect throughout a tremendous adventure quest. Advances in technology allowed Nintendo to bring the game to the US on cart (with the save system intact, for the first time).
