This book includes writings from saints such as Francis of Assisi and Julian of Norwich; from leaders such as Mary Queen of Scots and Constantine the Great; artists such as Michelangelo, Robert Browning, and Jane Austin; and philosophers such as Soren Kierkegaard. In the first part of this book, prayers are organised by theme and occasion. There are also indexes of first lines, subjects, and authors and sources all of which make finding a particular prayer a snap. The second part of the Encyclopedia offers over seventy extracts from classic teachings on prayer and praise, as well as prayer collections, and stories about prayer and people who prayed. A veritable galaxy of devotional and scholarly writings are included, with authors including Augustine, Bunyan, Calvin, Brother Lawrence, Luther, Origen, C. H. Spurgeon, Wesley, and Whitefield.
