Noted conductor Sir John Eliot Gardiner performed Bach's great "Christmas Oratorio" in Weimar in 2000, just before setting out on a tour of European and American churches meant to highlight the great composer's sacred cantatas. Here, Sir Gardiner's work with the Monteverdi Choir and the English Baroque Soloists gives the music--originally written for a 1734 Christmas celebration in Leipzig--a fresh, joyous energy.
