Lost Planet 3 is a prequel that returns gamers to the frigid planet E.D.N. III, where they must contend with extreme cold as well as the gaping maws, spiky exoskeletons, and glowing thermal energy of the indigenous Akrid. Players take on the role of Jim Peyton, a rig pilot working for Neo-Venus Construction who travels to the alien planet to search for thermal energy and prepare the world for future colonization. With supplies running low, Jim volunteers to head out into the wilderness in his massive, mech-like utility rig to find a natural source of the thermal energy.<br><br>Those familiar with the series will see plenty of the franchise's customary third-person shooting when gamers exit the construction rig and explore branching locales, but Lost Planet 3 also introduces intense first-person action sequences designed to accentuate the massive size of the utility rig and the vastness of E.D.N. III. As players advance through the linear single-player storyline they will acquire weapon and rig upgrades, and gradually learn how massive construction mechs gave way to the smaller, more combat-oriented Vital Suits of the first two games. Multiplayer fans can take on four different modes spread across six unique maps, joining friends for three-on-three or five-on-five co-op and competitive action.<br><br><! -- 360 -- >
