You have the Red cable (the live-cable) on your battery connecting to the Black (negative cable) on the charger. This is called reverse polarity and the charger will not like this, hence the smoke. We have kindly offered to replace the charger for you if you cover the £2.20 postage cost, on the basis you do not use that battery with the charger. Thanks
