Seine Dampflokomotive Saxonia war Metapher der Mairevolution 1849 Der Koenig ruhmte Professor Johann Andreas Schuberts Verdienste fur das Land Sachsen; Revolutionierung des Dampfschiff-, Lokomotiven-, Maschinen- und Bruckenbau, sowie die Einfuhrung des Titels Ingenieur in Deutschland. Er charakterisierte ihn als einen verdienstvollen Vasallen, dessen einzige Verfehlung die Mitwirkung anlasslich der Mairevolution 1849 war. An der Seite von Gottfried Semper, Richard Wagner und August Roeckel kampfte Johann Andreas Schubert als Kommandeur der Akademischen Legion auf den Barrikaden. Wahrend Weber und Semper in die Schweiz fluchteten, blieb Schubert in Dresden. Nach 19-jahriger Ehe verstarb seine, Ehegefahrtin, Florentine, Mutter zweier Kinder. Aus der zweiten Ehe mit Sophie Eben entstammen funf Toechter. Professor Schubert war eine Persoenlichkeit, die es verstand Forschung, Lehre und Praxis zu verbinden.
