I have bought Japanese jeans before - the pic shows a 38 Karakuri Tamashii pair (which is actually a 36 in real world) Vs these jeans which are also labelled 38 - you can clearly see the difference in size. always order up sized, nut even then it's a lottery as the pic shows.
