Bought a different 2 wire volt meter that goes up to over 100v, red and black, I can't get it wrong and if I did it has reverse polarity protection so just wouldn't work, was a fair bit more expensive than this one. Shame I broke this one because the size of it is perfect, this other one I've bought is much bigger but as long as it works that's all that matters.
