It may be due to the colder temps which made it extra firm. However, most people purchase shea butter for skin conditions and find whether it's too firm, too soft, etc, that the product still is plenty effective at treating flares. I would try warming it up and stirring with a spoon. You can even add a little olive oil to thin it out and help it apply more smoothly.
