The MSI 970A-G46 AMD motherboard supports several AMD CPUs, including those from the eight-core AMD FX series. An AMD 970 (northbridge) and SB950 (southbridge) make up the 970A-G46 AMD motherboard’s core logic chipset. The AMD 970, which features AMD’s HyperTransport technology increases communication speed between integrated circuits, hard drives, embedded systems, servers and networking and telecommunications hardware by up to 48 percent. The chipset has DDR3 SDRAM operates a third-generation SATA interface that supports six ports for operating next generation high-speed data storage devices at a rate of 6GB/s. In addition to supporting 12 USB 2.0 ports, the 970A-G46 AMD motherboard supports two USB 3.0 ports.
