- [10],14, [10],305, [7] pages. Frontis plate. 12 mo. Bound in, later 3/4 red morocco with red marbled boards. Gilt title to, spine, red and black title page. 1st Addison translation, edition. The final 3 leaves contain "Fragments." Red leather, has some rubbing, front joint starting to crack. Inside front, cover has large bookplate, cracking at gutter before the, frontis plate, paper a bit toned, occasional mild foxing,, otherwise clean and unmarked. Handsome little copy of this 1st, edition translated by Joseph Addison (1672-1719) , the, co-founder of the Spectator and an essayist, poet, playwright, and politician. Gaius Petronius Arbiter. Sometimes Titus, Petronius Niger) , was a Roman courtier during the reign of, Nero. He is generally believed to be the author of the, Satyricon, a satirical novel believed to have been written, during the Neronian era (54–68 AD). ESTC T101492
