Notes
The NEW CD recording on Rondette Jazz from NYC's George Gee Swing Orchestra featuring the compositions and arrangements music director/ trombonist John David Gibson and top big band artisans. With vocal duties handled by Hilary Gardner and John Dokes. LiINER NOTES: 'Even 35 years into my career in the big-band business, I enjoy my role as bandleader more and more every day. All our wonderful experiences feel magically right, though there's no wizardry involved. It's just greta music! I've reached this moment in time thanks in part to the determination and focus Mr. (Count) Basie instilled in me during the time I was fortunate to call him my mentor. Also, and of equal importance to the GGSO, has been my collaboration with David Gibson during his five years as the band's music director. David and I are truly kindred spirits who agree that swing music is a living, growing, and evolving art form. Together, we've created a mosaic of great, swingin' big-band jazz with a fantastic array of musical talent, which we are proud to present to you. All these tunes have been 'audience approved' week after week during our residency at SWING46 Jazz & Supper Club in New York City. And, amazingly, for this album, our musicians recorded each of them live in a single take! Again, it's no wizardry, but just that 'The cats are swingin' and the music is happy.' We hope you agree this album proves one of our favorite mottoes: 'SWING MAKES YOU HAPPY!' --from bandleader George Gee 'When I first performed with the GGSO, I quickly realized I was in my preferred musical environment: George had assembled a group of musicians who, in the words of saxophonist (and resident sage) Eddie Pazant, 'came to PLAY, every night.' The blues was everywhere and in everyone. The group was committed to swinging every beat, all night long. I was among friends. As I began composing for the group, I wrote especially for my friends. George and I share a passion for Count Basie, the music and the man, and that passion was the germ for these new works. Then, as I heard each of these musicians bring their individual flavors to my compositions and arrangements, I began to stretch the GGSO musical persona while always honoring our commitment to SWING. The results, collected here, have exceeded the boundaries of my imagination. I'm so proud to be a part of this musical family. Very special thanks to George and these world-musicians for all the inspiration! I hope you can feel it as you listen and dance your way through this album of songs. Thanks for listening. --from music director / trombonist David Gibson THE GEORGE GEE SWING ORCHESTRA George Gee - Bandleader David Gibson - Music Director/ Trombone Hilary Gardner - vocal John Dokes - Vocal Eddie Pazant - Alto Sax Michael Hashim - Tenor Sax Anthony Lustig - Baritone Sax Freddie Hendrix - Trumpet Andy Gravish - Trumpet Steve Einerson - Piano Marcus McLaurine - String Bass Willard Dyson - Drums.
