AMD Direct Connect Architecture further increases connectivity, connecting the integrated memory controller and system I/O directly to the CPU. This architecture also enables simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing, which allows you to run both older and newer applications without fear of compatibility issues. The Phenom II plugs into the AM3 socket and is compatible with any motherboard that uses this AM3 socket architecture. With no other changes, replacing the system's CPU with this one has the system running nicely. A bonus is that the HDZ955FBK4DGM original that went bad is a 'Black' edition with 125W TDP, vs this standard edition HDX955WFK4DGM with only 95W TDP, and I didn't need the extra power draw. There were tiny bits of thermal paste on the pins from a former too-much-paste foul, easily cleaned with alcohol.
