Was not or poorly washed. Was a chocolate? smear, a piece of lard stuck into it... The lid was cleaned in a dishwasher and I lubricated and inspected it before shipping. You might be getting the clear lubrication, which was provided by Cuisinart, somehow, mixed up with chocolate--I ASSURE you there was no chocolate on it, and, as you indicated it is in perfect, working order, and smoothly locks onto the unit.
