Synopsis
Plesha, Gray, and Costanzo's Engineering Mechanics: Statics and Dynamics, 2nd edition is the Problem Solver's Approach for Tomorrow's Engineers. Based upon a great deal of classroom teaching experience, Plesha, Gray, and Costanzo provide a visually appealing, "step-by-step" learning framework. The presentation is modern, up-to-date and student centered, and the introduction of topics and techniques is relevant, with examples and exercises drawn from the world around us and emerging technologies. Every example problem is broken down in a consistent "step-by-step" manner that emphasises a "Problem Solver's Approach" which builds from chapter to chapter and moves from easily solved problems to progressively more difficult ones. McGraw-Hill's Connect, is also available as an optional, add on item. Connect is the only integrated learning system that empowers students by continuously adapting to deliver precisely what they need, when they need it, how they need it, so that class time is more effective. Connect allows the professor to assign homework, quizzes, and tests easily and automatically grades and records the scores of the student's work. Problems are randomized to prevent sharing of answers an may also have a "multi-step solution" which helps move the students' learning along if they experience difficulty. Engineering Mechanics: Statics and Dynamics, 2nd edition by Plesha, Gray, and Costanzo - a new dawn for the teaching and learning of Statics and Dynamics., English summary: This study presents and acknowledges the most important archeological discoveries of the last years which have a principally historical- political aspect pertinent to the early and high Roman imperial period in northwestern Germany. The sites include the Roman camp system from Hedemunden on the north bank of the Werra River, the "civilized settlement" of Waldgrimes on the Lahn (around Giessen) and the prominent Roman-Germanic encampment of Kalkriese (north of Osnabruck) as well as Kalefeld/Northeim (on the Harzhorn in Leine-Tal.) The new finds presented in this study are each rigorously compared and analyzed with the relevant historiographic context. Various new insights for the specific methods and changing goals in the Roman policy towards the Rhine region and Germans emerge with regard to the with regard to the preparations and the progress of the Drusus campaigns (12-9/8 BCE in Hedemunden) as well as the occupation phase in the time of Augustus (from 7 BCE; Walgrimes) up to the catastrophe of Varus (9 CE; Kalkriese.) Furthermore the chronologically decisive findings from the battlefield on the Harzhorn (Kalefeld) provide a sweeping new image of the course and the goals of the last great offensive of the Romans in the heart of Germania on the right bank of the Rhine (235 CE) under the personal command of the first real "Soldier Emperor," Julius Verus Maximinus (Thrax.) This new depiction is more in compliance with the late antique witness which has been doubted for a long time in scholarly discussion.
