The immobilizer chip is programmable, but the keyless entry was not. A genuine subaru keyless fob will fit in this case (the fobs are slightly different dimensions), so it can be made to work, but a genuine subaru case back with logo cannot be used. It won't snap together with a real subaru fob inside.

The keys were cut and programmed but the remote lock/unlock didn't work because the batteries were missing in the 2 keys purchased. I didn't see that in the description, maybe I missed that. Paid extra for the batteries and the 2 keys work fine. All in all satisfied with the purchase and now have keys so my wife and I can drive the 2016 Forester.
