Was scared at first to take my old DVD-R/W and put it into an enclosure I wasn't too sure would work - I took a gamble and it paid off. Whew!! Took the old writer out of my 2012 MacBook Pro and stuck it into the enclosure. Fit like a glove - no assembly required. The DVD-RW snaps right into the SAT slot after breaking off the 4 plastic columns - don't worry, they come off pretty easily. Then the bottom of the enclosure should snap right in. Works great on my Mac using an empty USB slot.
