I am now worried about putting the stick in again as I don’t want to damage my laptop which is only a week old. You must put it in straight and not at an angle. This means the pins on the male connector only align correctly with the corresponding pins on the female connector. in one orientation. Ensure you can see properly to put it in the correct way up, give yourself some more light
