Forty years after the Holocaust, Esther Nisenthal Krinitz depicted her remarkable story of survival through a series of 36 stunningly beautiful, exquisitely detailed fabric collage and embroidery panels. Through Esther's own words and images of her art work, along with interviews of her daughters and others, this film explores the capacity of the human heart to heal. At 15, Krinitz defied Nazi orders to report for "relocation." Separating from her family, her sister in tow, she survived hiding in plain sight posing as a Polish farmgirl, never seeing their family again. At 50, haunted by memories and untrained in art, she used needle and thread to create a legacy borne of love, loss, and the sheer force of memory. The film offers a unique way to educate students about the Holocaust and themes of social injustice and personal courage and resilience.
