William Scrope. Published by John Murray, London, 1839. New Edition, but First Edition (thus). Bound in the publisher's hardcover green boards, titled in gilt to the spine, with gilt vignette of a wolfhound to the front cover and a stag to the rear. Boards with some light staining, spine toned with a little splitting to the edges of the spine, horizontal split to the upper spine, chipping to the spine ends. Corners bumped. Well illustrated with an engraved title page and frontispiece as well as 11 further engravings and lithographs after paintings by Edwin and Charles Landseer and by the author. All plates are present, albeit with some spotting or foxing, one of two starting to work loose, faint prev owner's name to the upper added title page (Thomas H Smith?) but generally in good order. Pages are lightly toned, untrimmed to the edges.440pp. Scarce.”
