In fact, the machine did have Ubuntu Linux pre-installed, though I will be using a more recent Ubuntu version. The configuration sold is rather minimal for a workstation, but Dell parts are easy to find on Ebay and I've upgraded it to a Xeon W-1270P, 32GB ECC RAM, and the proper Dell cooling solution for this configuration.
