Metal areas around the bit are very rough and irregular. Only the perimeter edges are shiny and smooth. I doubt that I will use it for serving food to guests. The horse bit pattern is eye catching until you look up close. Then it would be embarrassing for someone to look closely. Maybe a mail tray or key holder. Maybe not. It would irritate me every time I looked at it. I will not buy this brand product again although there are several pieces I would like if not for the poor finish.
