This epic RPG includes four discs and lets you take on the role of Dart, a warrior returning to his home village. The village was sacked, and his dear friend Shana was kidnapped. However, these horrific events are only the tip of the game's intricately layered plot. You control Dart on his journey through Endiness, where he meets with Rose, a taciturn, battle-hardened woman with a mysterious past. Along the way they recover Shana, meet with the war hero Lavitz, and encounter Kongol, a silent, strong warrior of few words. Up to eight heroes can join Dart on his adventures across Endiness, all of whom are able to become Dragoons.The game adds a new twist on turn-based combat for role-playing games and boss battles. When you choose to attack, you can chain combos together by hitting "X" at the right moment. Each team member has different attack abilities and will call out the name of the attack if the player successfully completes the chain. This attack mechanic is designed for intense play and quicktime events, and it keeps you on the edge of your seat in each battle.Battles against bosses and normal enemies are won with weapons or magic. These are available only to a character who has transformed into a Dragoon. Your dragon weapons increase in strength and attack power as you purchase new swords, axes, and bows/arrows from merchants to take on a boss or cut through weaker enemies. Your magical skills increase with experience and are drawn from the four elements of wind, water, fire, and earth. Each character has their own different style of magic. For example, Rose uses dark black magic, and Dart has fire skills. Each disc offers a new section of the world to explore and more lives to save on your quest for personal vengeance.Each boss you encounter has their own dark ambitions for Endiness, and some are even gifted with the powers of a Dragoon themselves. The intricately rendered, full-motion video cutscenes make "The Legend of Dragoon" a game that is a true jewel of the classic PSX days. You are rewarded for your hard work in each section of the game by these gorgeous, richly colored scenes available throughout each disc."The Legend of Dragoon" for the Sony PlayStation is a game truly ahead of its time.
