Synopsis
This second volume makes American composition dolls more accessible to collectors by presenting hundreds of clear photographs and new research in this field. Marionettes and puppets are new features in this volume. Fifty of those marionettes were sold exclusively by the Madame Alexander Doll Company, and photos of complete sets like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs are displayed. Composition doll collecting as it relates to the Internet is also a new section covered in this volume, as well as questions most often asked by collectors. A biography of Harriet Flanders, creator of Little Cherub, is included. 2004 values., At the turn of the century, the trade in mass-produced American composition dolls escalated from a marginal to a major force that soon dominated the domestic market. In 1998, Ursula Mertz wrote Volume I of the Collector's Encyclopedia of American Composition Dolls, which was received with great enthusiasm and interest by doll collectors, and sold quickly. This second volume achieves the same goals as the first -- it makes American composition dolls more accessible to collectors by presenting hundreds of clear photographs and new research in this field. This exciting new encyclopedia is essential for collectors, researchers, and historians interested in all aspects of identification, history, production, and commerce in these truly American toys.
