Oliver Stone returned to the subject of Vietnam with this wrenching true account of the experiences of Ron Kovic, played by Tom Cruise. A patriotic kid from a small town, he volunteers eagerly to serve in Vietnam. After being disillusioned by the duplicity of military bureaucracy, he's paralyzed from the chest down by a bullet in the spine. He returns home, bitterly alienated from an uncomprehending family, facing a long and painful rehabilitation. But slowly, with the help of friends like Donna (Kyra Sedgewick), he begins to think differently about the war--and about himself.
