I play jazzesque music and find 7A's to skinny and 5A's too loud. These are in the middle. They are sugar maple so they are a tad lighter than rock maple. The 1/4 inch enables me to relax more, and it also keeps me in control considering how light the sticks are. The oval tips bring out the warmth of the cymbals and snare. Great for light playing, but can also bring out the volume for dynamics. Keepers
