All sketches are in color. Hard cover with dust jacket. Cover is actual cloth. Beautiful end papers. Text in English and Japanese. This is a very rare book in USA. Shibata Zeshin was a Japanese artist, writer and painter. He was born in 1807 in Edo (Tokyo) and died in 1891. He came form a family of artists and craftsmen. In 1869, Zeshin was commissioned to work for the Imperial government. One of his accomplishments was the painting of the ceiling in the Meiji Imperial Palace 1888. This book present all 112 sketches for panels. There is a folded out drawing showing all 112 panels in their original arrangement. There is a sketch of each panel . Also the book presents other work of Zeshin: drawings of insects, birds, plants, fish and a special chapter dedicated to drawings of cherry blossom. There are 330 pages of pictures.”
