3 American carriers in the NE quadrant on the 180 degree search arc in advance of the Japanese attack at Midway. Additionally , the "Tone's" plane had a defective radio which caused an additional delay in reporting the American force once it was found. Those delays led to the loss of 4 Japanese aircraft carriers .
