The opening vignette provided an real life youth culture example that is relatable to students. The book is easy to read and well organized effectively addressing each of the learning objectives. Most importantly it encourages students to apply critical thinking skills relating to the topics presents., This text appears to cover all the basics of the criminal justice system for the new CJ student, but also offers more insight to other topics as well as a delving deeper into other areas for the more advanced beginning student...Additionally, there are supplemental materials by way of learning activities, websites, and discussion questions to help further enhance the learning experience or for those students who wish to explore topics on their own., I believe this book would catch the interest of intro level students. It incorporates lots of current issues that will allow a great deal of discussion., This is the best text I have encountered in the criminal justice field. Every component is of superior quality. The final product is outstanding. I have not experienced a text of this superior quality in my lengthy career in academia, It is an excellent book, with a separate chapter on criminal justice policy. Each chapter is well presented, with relevant and current information. And each chapter has two debate/issues based on each chapter's information., One of the best features of this text is the inclusion of chapters on victimization and criminal justice policy.
