Gamers take on the role of the last descendent of Hispania's throne as he battles the oppressive Divine Empire in Tears to Tiara II: Heir of the Overlord. Hamil was resigned to toil in indentured servitude, but after witnessing a horrific murder and receiving a visit from the goddess Tarte, he decides to fight back. As gamers embark on their journey they will meet and recruit more than a dozen vital characters, and this party full of warriors, beasts, and gods will help defeat the forces of the Empire in turn-based tactical battles on a variety of map grids.<br><br>The story advances through dialogue-filled cut-scenes that lead to combat scenarios in which each party member can be called upon to use a distinct set of attributes and skills. Every party member is imbued with elemental attributes that have a rock-paper-scissors relationship with the elements of foes, and two different element cycles advance with every turn, leading to Favored State scenarios in which a character's element lines up with the current elemental cycle to produce attribute increases. Gamers can unleash Joint Attacks, Consecutive Strikes, and Boost Magic to gain the upper hand in combat, and they can even ride an elephant or a chariot into battle. Heir of the Overlord also includes a crafting system, three difficulty levels, and even a rewind system if players want to take back battle actions.
