Child phenomena Mickey Rooney stars in and veteran "One-Take Woody" Van Dyke directs the seventh installment in the Andy Hardy series. Now a high school student, Andy is writing and directing his own play, and all the time together with his attractive new drama teacher (Helen Gilbert) provokes heart flutters for poor young Andy, who confesses his love and asks for Gilbert's hand only to discover that she is already engaged. Meanwhile, Judge Hardy (Lewis Stone) is having some troubles of his own, having been taken in by a con man. Lacking Pop's advice and the emotional comfort of former steady Polly (Anne Rutherford), Andy cannot find a clear path out of his feverish funk. Rooney is as charming as always, providing a light, affable ride through the humorous tribulations of adolescence in a world of warmhearted golden era silver screen mores.
