    About this product

    Product Information

While the majority of Pokemon DS games are firmly in the role-playing genre, those looking for a trading-card based video game can check out "Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs" for the Nintendo DS. This action-packed third installment in the "Pokemon Ranger" series had a 2010 release date worldwide, and it was popular enough to receive a European re-release for the Wii U console in 2016.Developed by Nintendo and Creatures, Inc., "Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs" is akin to an action game, tasking you with capturing Pokemon using real-time gestures. By using the stylus, or "styler," you draw symbols on the screen to catch and build an army of monsters capable of stopping the evil Pokemon Pinchers. Of course, it isn't as easy as it sounds, because these captives can attack the borders of the shapes you create and eventually drain your health. When you successfully capture your targets, as difficult as it may be, you receive XP that can be used to purchase upgrades and increase your capture power. The plot features a brand-new adventure in the island region of Oblivia, where you become stranded after a brutal battle with the villainous brigade known as the Pokemon Pinchers. This nefarious crowd is in the process of trying to capture a rare creature when you and your partner intervene. However, in the process, your partner is kidnapped and you're knocked out. After awakening, the player encounters a young Pichu, who plays a ukulele. This Pichu quickly becomes your new partner and the first of your many available companions, leading to a glorious adventure in which you'll meet friends, foes, and countless Pokemon on your journey to save your friend and defeat the Pokemon Pinchers. The job of a Ranger is to protect nature, but if you work hard, you might just be able to save the world. One of the new features in this series is the addition of the eponymous Guardian Signs. By using the stylus to draw specific and unique symbols during battle, you can summon legendary monsters to come to your aid. These monsters, favorites of the Pokemon franchise, range from the three legendary dogs, like Entei and Suicune, to the elemental birds, like Moltres and Zapdos, to the more volatile and mysterious Deoxys.Another new feature is the Fly Field move, which allows players to take to the sky on the backs of their favored Pokemon and battle against rare flying types that would otherwise be inaccessible. This gives the game a wider breadth of maneuvering while maintaining the spirit of the Pokemon franchise. There's no doubt that Pokemon has come a long way since the original top-down adventures, but this game and others like it take Nintendo's creativity to the next level. If you own other Pokemon games for the DSi or DS, such as "Diamond," you can transfer the monsters you catch in "Guardian Signs" to those games.
