Based on the animated series, Beyblade: Metal Fusion -- Battle Fortress revolves around tournament battles fought with special spinning-top "blades." Blades are revved up and let loose, to crash and rebound in a fighting area, which is often walled or bowl-shaped to keep the tops returning to the center for additional collisions. The player with the last in-bounds top spinning is the winner. As in the anime series (and the corresponding Hasbro toy line), each blade is assembled from five basic parts, which combine to give the top a particular shape, weight, center of gravity, and spin-tip friction. Victory calls for strategic planning, as before a match, players can equip their blades with different parts to for enhanced offensive or defensive attributes. When the blades are in battle, gamers unleash special attacks and abilities with well-timed controller input, in an action-oriented style of play. Players can take the roles of Beybladers from the TV show, including Kenta, Gingka, Kyoya, and Benkei. Over a dozen additional characters can be unlocked by conquering in-game challenges. As they progress through the adventure -- which follows an original storyline, written for the game -- players also unlock additional blades and gain new parts that provide new or improved capabilities. Gamers can design custom blades, which can be stored in a Wii Remote and carried to a friend's house for battle. The game supports multiplayer for up to four.
