These baffles would not slide in the exhaust, and after many attempts it was evident that the heat resistant wool wadding was too thick. On removing the wool wadding I found it was wrapped around the baffle 1.5 times making it too thick. My solution was to cut it so the edges met, and there was no overlay. I tied it in place with cotton string which I speculate will just burn away. This worked. So, simply the wadding was too thick.
