Les Franken is the epitome of ordinary; a lonely traffic warden who enjoys reading comic books in his spare time. With nothing to lose, he agrees to take part in a clinical trial of a revolutionary new antidepressant called æSpecialÆ. However, one unexpected side-effect of taking said wonderdrug is the illusion of possessing superhuman powers. Inspired by the comics he reads, Les quits his day job and devotes his life to fighting crime, real or imagined. Michael Rapaport (HITCH, MIGHTY APHRODITE) stars as the chemically-induced æsuperheroÆ, deftly imbuing the character with a warmth and dignity that makes his delusional quest to save the world all the more poignant. In combining a sensitive issue like mental illness with something as light-hearted as superheroism, directors Hal Haberman and Jeremy Passmore have created a black comedy thatÆs offbeat and highly original.
