Interestingly by the date on this hard drive, it is of the same approximate production time. Not to worry though, as it was still a new and well packaged hard drive. Checking Windows Disk Management and DiskGenius, it gave an incorrect capacity reading of 3.86GB and could not be initialized due to what appeared to be an I/O error. Reading around the Internet, various disk experts indicated that this meant the disk's firmware was either corrupted or couldn't be read from the physical disk, meaning a hardware failure, reportedly common to older Seagate drives.
